m/96 Buttplate Configuration
August 29, 2007
This photo shows the rather dramatic difference between the old style buttplate angle and the later style.
The top rifle is an original 1902 Carl Gustaf, the stock being a light hue French walnut.
All German-made Mausers prior to the 1896 Swedish used this old style configuration, including
the 1891 Argentine, 1893 Chilean and 1895 Chilean, all of which I have in my collection.
Why the change?
We still don't know.
This photo shows the difference in buttplate angle
in a 1900 Gustaf carbine and a 1918 Gustaf carbine.
